Growing Old Gracefully

How does one grow old ‘gracefully?’,
We are told that we should!
But why, and how should we?
We no longer tell our family how to behave,
They are now free to do as they will,
No! I will not swallow your’ graceful’ pill.
Then we are told ‘ take it easy’.
Yes, we are told that we should.
But why, and how should we?
We do what we like, when we like
And what’s more with whom we like!
So don’t offer me your ‘easy’ pill.
You must take care! act your age!
Yes, we are told that we should!
But why, and how should we?
Do you really want us to act our age?
If that were true, we’d be in our grave.
I’m not ready yet to swallow that ‘age’ pill.
At your age you should have more ‘sense’!
Yes, we are told that we should!
But why, and how should we?
If sense means being celibate with no fun,
Then I will stick with my place in the sun.
Give someone else that ‘more sense’ pill.
